Snowflake Experts

This week, we continued to build on our knowledge and understanding of snowflakes in order to become snowflake experts. We learned that snowflakes all have six lines and that every line is the same. We also learned that we could make our own unique snowflake designs using letters or shapes.

First, we explored drawing snowflakes together using shapes.

Next, we watched a video with a snowflake expert that taught us how to make snowflakes using letters.

Then, we explored with a variety of materials, such as pattern blocks and loose parts, in order to build our own snowflakes.

Last, we experimented with lines and shapes to make unique snowflakes designs.

Students also had a chance to share what they learned about snowflakes. Here are a few of their comments:

Avalynn: "A snowflake has it's own design."
Gul: "I know a snowflake has an "x" and a line.. shapes."
Mahtab: "Snowflake has 6 lines."
Nyada: "they come from the sky and there's little pieces of water and when they bump they make a big rain drop and the cold makes a snowflake."
Siya: "I know they have 6 lines and they're really really beautiful and they have designs and they are made of snow."
